about me, mr. c.
iNTRODUCTION
My name is Mr. Curcio, and I am a 2009 graduate from Pennsylvania State University with a degree in Secondary Education English/Communications. I also have a minor in English and a Master's degree in Instructional Technology.
I have been looking forward to becoming a teacher for many years dating back to my sophomore year of high school at Norwin Senior High located in North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. My interest in writing sparked my desire to become a teacher as I became fascinated with how people write, why people write, and what struggles people have in writing. Because of these inquiries, I became a writing tutor my junior year of college where I helped students write/edit everything ranging from papers to personal statements to resumes.

Teaching @ Derry Area
I have been teaching 10th Grade English at Derry Area for the past six years. Extracurricular activities include: Lady Trojans Soccer, Derry Area Track & Field, & Mock Trial.
I plan on teaching you to the best of my ability focusing on the importance of communication and writing in today's society. English is more than just grammar and literature now-a-days; it's all about connecting themes and vocabulary to everyday occurrences and popular media.

Student Comments
"It completely blew my mind some of the things [Mr. C] could get out of a simple poem... I thought it was cool."
"I actually really enjoyed this class. It let me think outside my comfort zone and let me write in ways that I had no experience with. It opened new doors for me and I think that was exactly the point in taking this class... No other teacher anywhere let's kids have so much freedom in class and the coolest part about that was that we knew that [Mr. C] knew us to be respectable and responsible." |
"[Mr. C] didn't break the story down for us, [he] gave us clever activities so that we could do it ourselves and then discuss it with the class... made everyone work together and kept asking questions so we thought harder. [Mr. C] made English fun."
"Gives respect instead of demanding it... in tune to our younger generation... has a lot to offer, and a lot to teach... changes people's lives, like he's changed that little piece of mine." "If I could describe Mr. Curcio's teaching in one word, it would have to be entertaining or spontaneous. He shows his passion for literature on his arm." |
